Allan’s story

I’m Allan Kelly, a BACP Senior Accredited Supervisor and a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist.

There have been many different chapters in my working life, from making macchiatos, packing parcels and digging drains to a successful career as an entrepreneur.  My feet are in the real world:
I draw on all I’ve learned and bring it into my specialist supervision practice.

Becoming a supervisor and therapist was never part of my life plan yet it felt like coming home to me. From the moment I walked into the world of therapy it felt like somewhere that I belonged,
and I’ve never looked back.

After more than 21 years in practice my focus is now on supervision. It’s wonderful to be working with a great new generation of therapists and helping them forge a successful path in this most interesting of careers.

All About People

I’m all about people: I’m fascinated by what makes us tick, and I love seeing my supervisees grow and develop. I see my role as one of a partner, embarking on this joint endeavour together. I’m by your side as you proceed on your journey and as you navigate your work and life issues.

When I turn on my laptop I’m stimulated in the knowledge that every day will be different. I never know what’s going to emerge: that’s the wonderful thing about being human. And I love the process: listening, reflecting, finding clarity and identifying paths.

When supervisees say ‘that’s so helpful. I never saw that before’ - it’s so rewarding. Wherever you’re based, in remote Wales, Northern Scotland or metropolitan London, I  will bring a different perspective and give you a fresh outlook.

Gives My Life Meaning

And at this moment in time, more than ever people want to discover what’s important to them and what gives their own life meaning. I’ll never tire of working with that wonderful thing that’s the human psyche and exploring what it is that makes us human. It gives my own life meaning – helping my supervisees transform lives - seeing others succeed and grow.

Of course it’s often challenging. But it’s always rewarding. I often hear from people I’ve helped 10 or 15 years ago who reach out to tell me the impact I’ve made. Nothing beats that feeling.

It’s such a privilege to be able to help people and change their lives for the better.

I see supervision as my route to help more people. The world needs more great therapists.  I get a real kick out of supporting new and developing talent, and I know that can make a real difference.

Why am I still at it after all these years? This is the only job I’ve ever truly loved!
